11 – Buffalo Bills – Derrick Harvey – DE – Florida
Not a lot of people have Harvey going here. I simply don’t see a WR worth taking here, and that’s probably the Bills #1 need. Malcolm Kelly keeps running slow on various surfaces, and while Devin Thomas from MSU is a temptation…naah. But of course there are 32 scouting organizations evaluating these guys, and there will be 32 different evaluations of the players (35 if you count ESPN, NFL Network and Sirius). Harvey is the best player available at a position of moderate need for the Bills. He’s the pick.
12 – Denver Broncos – Branden Albert – G/T – Virginia
Quite a coup for Al Groh here, as two Virginia players go in the bleeping top 12. Branden Albert is a versatile, large young man. The only place I know he won’t be starting next year is at Center. The Broncos make their O-Line younger and better here.
13 – Carolina Panthers – Rashard Mendenhall – RB – Illinois
The Panthers could go O-line here with Otah still unclaimed, but I like Mendenhall. Mendenhall is a quick, big back, and that’s a pretty nice combination. Carolina gets an immediate impact playmaker who can take some pressure off the passing game…now about that QB…
14 – Chicago Bears – Jeff Otah – T – Pitt
Cedrick Benson stinks, let’s face facts, he is a bust for where he was taken. But he may be serviceable with a better line. At least, that should be the thinking in Chicago. Otah will make a big difference in the running game, I am not 100% sold on his footwork for the passing game, but that can be learned. Mendenhall could be the pick here if he lasts, but the Bears have a glaring need at OT…competition for Benson can wait till round 3 or later.
15 – Detroit Lions – Devin Thomas – WR – MSU
Ha…bzzzt…ha. Just bleeping kidding.
15 – Detroit Lions – Jonathan Stewart – RB - Oregon
Boy, do the Lions need a running back. Stewart is starting to climb up the boards on mock drafts and must have a great agent, because ESPN loves the kid. There’s a lot to love, though. He is 235 pounds and ran a bleeping 4.44 40 time. Forget it. The Lions could go MLB here with Mayo from Tennessee, but there is some good depth at LB this year in the middle rounds. Hold the Mayo, go for the points.
But that Devin Thomas kid is from Michigan State….hmmm…Someone keep Matt Millen away from the War Room!
Initially built by NASA to set lines for the Las Vegas casinos in the late 50’s (who do you think funded the Apollo missions? The government? It was the mob!), The Sin City Betbot 6000 calculated lines for over 30 years. The Betbot was given various upgrades through the years, not always with the best equipment, but he was very good at setting lines, and living the good life.
The Betbot was de-commissioned in 1990 after San Francisco destroyed Denver in the Super Bowl. The 45 point spread simply fried a number of the Betbot’s wires and he retired. The Betbot was discovered by Fantasysharks.com and retooled to give fantasy advice. He lives now to help your team with deeper sleepers to start each week.
Now, he’s joining the blogging game. As he says, “It’s about bleeping time!”
The Betbot’s blog is transcribed each week by Joe Petrizzi and Tom Walls, because, “Typing is a dame’s… BZZZT job.”
6 – New York Jets – Darren McFadden – RB – Arkansas
A lot of people had McFadden going here a month ago. Then the Raiders, now back to the Jets again. I think the Raiders could take him, but I have them taking Vernon ‘Ghost Town’ Gholston. So the Jets take McFadden. Some mocks have Matt Ryan going here, but I can’t believe the Jets have given up on Clemens yet.
7 – New England Patriots – Leodis McKelvin – CB – Troy
The Patriots defense was pretty bad down the stretch last year. And the offense wasn’t much better…But the offense’s problems can be solved by schemes, the defense – they need talent. Derrick Harvey is a real temptation here, but the pick is McKelvin. Assante Samuel is gone, and linebackers can be had later in the draft…I know – the Pats have been able to do a lot with low round CBs before, but McKelvin is too good a talent to pass up here.
8 – Baltimore Ravens – Matt Ryan – QB – Boston College
Don’t some of these bleeping mock drafts seem like the writers…bzzzt…start with matching certain names with teams, and then they make the rest of the draft fit these assumptions? I hate that…Take it from me, I didn’t do that, but I do think the Falcons and Chiefs both will pass on Ryan in the first round for a chance at Brohm/Henne/Flacco (I call them collectively Cerebus). With McNair’s announcement, you can be sure the Ravens take either Ryan or a Cerebi.
9 – Cincinnati Bengals – Sedrick Ellis – DT – USC
See my note above about matching names and teams…again, I am innocent. Ellis drops to the Bengals, and they make the easiest pick of the draft so far. He perfectly fits their needs. If you’re a Bengals fan, and this happens – congratulations.
10 – New Orleans Saints – Keith Rivers – LB – USC
The saints could use a time machine for that Meachem pick from last year. WR is a temptation, but the Saints are very weak in the back half of their defense. They could go CB, but I (and a lot of other mockers) like Keith Rivers. Rivers could play either inside or outside…my suggestion – put him where ever Mark bleeping Simoneau WAS.
By the way, the Saintsations, have a lovely webpage. I love cheerleaders almost as much as I love showgirls. Rrrooowww…bzzzt…rrrr.
